Adlai Ewing Stevenson (August 17, 1900 – July 1, 1965) was an American statesman and the Democratic Party’s nominee for president in 1952 and 1956. He served as governor of Illinois from 1947 to 1953 and as vice president of the United States from 1953 to 1961 under President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
He was the nephew of U.S. Senator Adlai Stevenson (1835–1917), and he was named after his uncle's late brother, Adlai Ewing Stevenson II (1841–1875)
